Realtor Safety Reminders

Published on:

Realtor Safety graphicSeptember heralds the annual observation of REALTOR® Safety Month and with it, reminders to make safety a year-round commitment. In a recent post to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Safety Month, the National Association of Realtors told its members,  “The risks you face seem to grow more frequent and more complicated.” but the strategies to staying safe remain simple.

On Thursday, September 20, Seattle King County REALTORS will present its popular real estate self defense class at its Bellevue training center. Instructor Amit Baruch will cover various safety and security topics from how to identify risky situations to tips for deterring identity and property theft, and the importance of reporting incidents. The course is approved for three clock hours. Seating is limited and pre-registration is required.

Additional resources such as “4 tips to keep you safe,” along with more detailed articles, apps, webinars, eBooks, safety resources, and ideas are in the Safety section of the NAR website. Northwest Multiple Listing Service* also has a “Safety & Alerts” tab on its home page that includes reports of fraudulent buyers, real estate scams, and suspicious activities.

Practitioners are encouraged to scroll through NAR’s online slide show with a series of tips, and to revisit the site for weekly updates.

4 Tips to Keep You Safe During REALTOR® Safety Month (and Beyond!)

  1. When you’re at the office, use a visitor log book with customer ID.
  2. Keep your business separate from your personal life online.
  3. When showing a property, leave the front door unlocked and let client enter first when viewing each room.
  4. Be aware of and use the 10 second rule to evaluate your surroundings.
